Engineering and Art – Kinetic Sculptures to check out
Wow! This artist, Theo Jansen, has just gotten in my radar. It really is something. I see that he was featured in a BMW ad so he should be really in the public eye a bit more now. How could I have missed it?
This YouTube video does a good job of showing his work:
I have always loved artists who use technology as part of their work. Da Vinci, Laurie Anderson, the Nikon microphotography annual exhibit that is hosted every year at the museum where I used to work. All are examples of the techy-feely spirit. Even Edward Tufte’s sculptures, while not necessarily as technical as Jansen’s, evoke a sense of technological aesthetics. Any type of creativity often fascinates me and when you appeal to my inner geek, well, so much the better.

Fidgert was helping me read how to train him. Actually, he wasn’t much help.
He mostly wanted to shred (er, turn) the pages. I hope that isn’t a library book!
