As much as YouTube has all of the press, I didn’t want all of the community just yet. So, I decided to give VideoEgg a try with this little video from my camera. Seemed easy peasy to me other than the fact that I have to use Safari with the VideoEgg site.
Embedding HTML or Javascript from inside the WP editor doesn’t seem to work. Here’s the permalink. I’m going to try Performancing and see if that works.
Okay..it’s been one month since I started my Project 365. I thought it was time to look at the process and share some of my (VERY) random thoughts on the process.
First, some facts. I have:
- taken 261 images on the SD card
- made 2 backups of the images and one backup of my SQL database
- used 12 AA batteries (time to invest in rechargeables)
- almost forgotten to get a photo in 1 time
- used a guest photographer 1 time (I was there for the photo – so by my rules, it counted)
- tried to post in several different manners (see below)
- not yet settled on the best way to do this project.
The approaches I have taken so far
- Used my Flock browser for everything – uploading images to Flickr, blog from Flock
- Used Firefox for everything – uploading images using Flickr Uploadr, blog using Performancing for Firefox or just the WP interface
- Used Firefox to log into Flickr and go from there – upload and blog from Flickr
- Posted images via email to Flickr and my blog
- Tried to install a WordPress plugin that gives me a Flickr bar like Flock but inside the WP interface. That never did work for me so I abandoned it.
All of these approaches have pros and cons. The biggest con for all of them other than using Performancing (PFF) or the WP interface is that I have to go change the category tag of the posting from my default (currently “Links”). So, I have to go into the system anyway. I could change the default to P365 but I have my postings from del.icio.us coming so those should be the default, in my mind. Hmmmmm….. I wish I had a way to filter each of these postings to their own category automagically.
The con of Flock blogging, PFF and WP is that I have to tweak code to get the image to float left or right if I want that look, which I do. The blogging from Flickr does what I want already but I have that category thing. Posting from email to Flicker/blog is the most efficient if I could figure out the linebreaks but I have to go and fix
those
annoying
linebreaks.
I have also tried posting everyday as well as saving up a few to post in a burst. Both of these approaches take longer than I think it should. And, I tend to forget what number I am on and what date it was so I have to keep going back and forth between Flickr and WP. I am going to change from my P365.x numbering system to the date. That will make it easier for me, I believe.
I am enjoying it, though!
You really didn’t think we could go that long without another kitten picture, did you?
Did you?
Fidgert decided that me putting the camera on the floor to try to get the world from his perspective was akin to placing some prey in his view. He is ready to pounce. I played with the contrast because the sun was really nice that day and they are just now discovering it on the floor.
Spent the night last night in North Carolina at my cousin’s home. He and his wife have a son and two dogs. The dogs, Blue and Alvar, are quite something.
A mix of Mastiff/German Shepherd/some other stuff.
They did settle down into the sun in the kitchen after a while. My cousin isan architect and redesigned their kitchen (mostly Ikea). It was nice to see his work finished..it was beautiful as I would expect.
It is Thanksgiving day in the United States. We gathered in Western North Carolina at my aunt and uncle’s home for the holiday. It was great to see cousins as well as my grandfather, parents and sister with her family.
After dinner, we had a trio with my mom on piano, cousin on violin and uncle on bass. He plays in a traditional/bluegrass band and I think his bass is a beautiful instrument.

most excellent..what I want to do with that old Gateway sitting in the basement
Wow! This artist, Theo Jansen, has just gotten in my radar. It really is something. I see that he was featured in a BMW ad so he should be really in the public eye a bit more now. How could I have missed it?
This YouTube video does a good job of showing his work:
I have always loved artists who use technology as part of their work. Da Vinci, Laurie Anderson, the Nikon microphotography annual exhibit that is hosted every year at the museum where I used to work. All are examples of the techy-feely spirit. Even Edward Tufte’s sculptures, while not necessarily as technical as Jansen’s, evoke a sense of technological aesthetics. Any type of creativity often fascinates me and when you appeal to my inner geek, well, so much the better.

an interesting take on online storage/sharing…remix everything rather than photos over here in flickr, videos in youtube, music in???
Having spent a frustrating afternoon trying to remember various services username/password combos (more on that later!), I decided to work on my Project 365 for the day. Logged into Flickr and saw that they have three new services.
Mobile Blogging (eh, not there yet)
Camera tagging (ways to find out what cameras are most popular on Flickr..could be interesting)
AND…what I really wanted to see…
Guest Pass. Great, i can share private photos with selected folks without them having to created Flickr accounts. Perfect!!
From the Flickr site:
Guest Pass
Ever wanted to share private photos with
friends and family without making them go through the rigamarole or
opening their own Flickr account? Yes? You have? Sorry – I can’t hear
you … never mind: we’ll just assume you have wanted that. Well now
you can!!!
That’s just great. I am loving this social software, within my social group. My Project 365 being public still gives me pause on occasion. Guess I’m old skool on this (or just old). But, for sharing family photos with family who don’t need or want an account, this is a great step.
